Morning circle time – Today we spoke about international day and our winter school uniform. Children were also excited to share their stories from the weekend. We went through our message board and spoke about making good choices throughout the day.

Dairy Farm visit : Also today we had a visitor from the farm come talk to us about the benenfits of milk and how to milk a cow in the farm. we watched a short video and then tried using the machine ourselves on the balloon cow in the classroom.

Recess and Lunch

Language – Today we sat together in a big circle and spoke about international day which is being held tomorrow between 2:30-3:15. We spoke about the concept of language and countries and how people have different traditions and ways of dressing up, eating and talking.

We also worked on the formation of the letter F and practiced tracing the uppercase and lowercase letters on paper and on the board.

 Math – We were counting the spots on various pictures and then matching it to the number that presents the spots

Here’s a breakdown of what we did in school today

We started our day with a house game that involved us all playing together with our teachers and friends . It was a holla-hoop kind of competition but what mattered was not the win but the spirit of playing collaboratively as a team

Morning circle time –Today we focused on emotional regulation and the concept of feelings.We came up with a list of choices that make us happy as well as examples of choices that make us sad and what we can do to make each other feel better. We also spoke about Thanksgiving weekend and shared our plans with one another.

Recess and Lunch

Language – Present, name and sound and formation of the letter E. We used playdough to mold and create the letter E and connected the lower case letters from A-E to their Uppercase letters

Math- We connected our math UOI to our trip to the farm and spoke about the steps to pick apples / the number of apples we picks , the steps we took to put them in a box then divide them into smaller bags. We compared numbers of objects in two groups and two numbers between   1 and 10.  When given a number we counted that many objects.

Morning circle time – we had our special helper of the day doing our calendar, we sang our morning songs, then added one more popcorn to our 100^th Day of school counting. We spoke about the letter E and came up with 8 words in total that start with the letter. Our focus today will be letter recognition.

Math UOI-  We compared numbers of objects in two groups and two numbers between   1 and 10.  When given a number we counted that many objects.

Recess and Lunch

Language – today we did a cut and paste activity where JKs had to cut pictures which begin with the letter E. We practiced holding the scissors. The opening and closing motion of cutting with scissors helps children develop the small muscles in their hands otherwise known as fine motor skills. These muscles are crucial for holding a pencil or crayons and gripping and manipulating objects.

 Cutting also helps develop eye-hand coordination as children hold the paper with one hand and cut with the other while tracking the movement of the scissors with their eyes. Another important skill that is developed through cutting is bilateral coordination. Bilateral coordination involves using both sides of the body at the same time while each hand is performing different tasks.

Silent reading - we started a minute session of silent reading to build our reading stamina in the classroom. reading stamina is our ability to read for a long period of time without distractions

Math - students continued to work on their numeracy unit and count in sets of 10/1 up to the number 30. we also traced the numbers to the matching domino. students were also tracing the numbers and connecting the dots to make a picture

Today we celebrated the birthdays of everyone born in September at St.Jude’s. We all gathered together during assembly and awarded our top inquirers for September.The kids were chosen for their sense of curiosity and independency as well as their participation level.

Happy OCTOBER!
