Summative assessment on Patterns

Jk's also participated in our monthly bake-sale activity with Mr.Conte and his class. Snacks were sold during our lunch and snack time.

Then we had 2 ways of practicing writing the letter of the week, which is Ss. JKs used the dry erase boards and play dough.  

Math/UOI – today we used a variety of nature materials to form AB, ABC and ABB patterns.

Centers -  today JKs had different types of blocks to explore. Blocks are great for developing the following: problem solving, imagination, self expression, mathematics, creativity, science, self –esteem, social and emotional growth.

Poem Practice – JKs are working hard at practicing the following when presenting their poem:

-         Projection

-         Pacing

-         Enunciation and Articulation

-         Memorization

-         Body Language

Poetry memorization builds vocabulary and comprehension. As students practice their poem presentation in class they are building presentation skills, which leads to a sense of pride, satisfaction and accomplishment. Keep up with practicing at home as well! J

Then JKs used the dry erase boards to practice writing uppercase and lowercase Ss

Math- JKs worked on a cutting and pasting activity where they matched real life objects with the 2D shapes.

Today we also talked about hand hygiene and the importance of following hygiene practices for our optimal health. We spoke about how viruses and bacteria can be transported around and how they can affect our body.

Morning circle time – we had our special helper of the day adding the date to our calendar, we sang our morning songs, then added one more popcorn to our 100^th Day of school counting. Today we also shared something we did over the weekend.

Then we used play dough to form the letter of the week, which is R. Then JKs had some time to use play dough cutters in order to develop their fine motor skills.  

Math/UOI – today we made a  geometric pattern with papers of different colors. We talked about places in nature we find patterns, such as leaves, tree trunk, trees, flowers, acorns, etc…

Math – we reviewed the 2D shapes and then completed an activity where JKs had to count the sides of each shape, cut and paste them in the correct category.

We did our show and tell today and presented to the class items that begin with the letter Q.

Then we worked on our Writing with Phonics workbook. When working on writing the letter of the week, JKs practice the correct formation of lowercase and uppercase as well as writing within the lines.

Math/UOI – today we created a Winter Pattern. 

Math – we reviewed the 2D shapes (specifically triangle and rectangle) and practiced tracing, drawing the shape. Then JKs were encouraged to draw an object using a triangle and a rectangle.

During our morning circle time, we also focused a little bit on phonics as JKs learned a new song with words that end with “ig”. Words such as pig, dig, wig, fig and big.

Then we used the small white boards to practice writing lowercase and uppercase Qq. 

Math/UOI – today we created a pattern mitt. They all turned out great!

Recess and Lunch
Morning circle time : We sang our goodmorning train song, weather and days of the week and then counted until 75 . We did our message board and spoke about this week’s schedule and expectations. We talked about the letter Q and came up with a huge list of words that start with the letter.

Also today , we spoke about how to be kind and helpful and how beautiful it is to show kindness in words and actions. Acts as simple as helping a friend with their snow pants, saying nice things to one another can go a long way. We emphasized the importance of keeping our hands to ourself and using our manners when we talk to our parents , teachers and friends

Language :Today we worked on writing and tracing the letter Q. We also sat down and spoke about the Do's and Dont's when going on a Trip and leaving the school periphery

Then we put on our detective hats and tried to find all Ps on our paper. As we identified the uppercase and lowercase Pp, we used the bingo dauber.

Math – today we introduced the new unit in math. We will be learning about shapes.You will find a letter attached in your child’s bag by tomorrow.
